SureMatch Compatibility™ Test
Reliability and Validity Overview

The SureMatch Compatibility™ test is founded on many years of research in the area of interpersonal attraction and attachment. The test matches singles based on compatibility scores which are derived from hundreds of comparisons. These comparisons identify where you are similar (which is where most tests stop), where you both prefer opposites, and where you both prefer acceptance as unique individuals and are neither opposite nor identical. These additional dimensions, as the literature suggests, is crucial in determining attraction. These elements ensure the likelihood of a more powerful and successful match.
Because of the lengthy development and rigorous testing, we are confident in the strength of the instrument. Below is a brief overview of our testing and findings.

Test/Retest reliability – conducted on a sample group using males and females age 18-32. Test/Retest reliability is .82. The test/retest reliability is more than ample for this sample group. This translates into a strong likelihood that people will answer the test questions consistently.

Reliability Studies – were also conducted using the 21 categories of compatibility which are categorized in the 7 dimensions of interpersonal attraction. These 7 dimensions are: Gender Confidence, Communication Effectiveness, Social Competence, Emotional Competence, Cognitive Style, Life Management, Love Map and Commitment patterns.
When tested against the null hypothesis of no significant difference from zero, the P-values for each of the 7 dimensions of interpersonal attraction are as follows:

Gender Confidence .81
Communication Effectiveness .45
Social Competence .62
Emotional Competence .66
Cognitive Style .87
Life Management .99
Love and Commitment .95

These data suggest a fairly strong reliability.

Measuring separate dimensions
We also obtained correlation coefficients between each of the seven interpersonal styles.
These data indicate the test appears to be measuring 7 different factors and appears to be measuring them reliably.

Predictive Validity
Because forming attachment and becoming engaged is the criteria for the SureMatch Compatibility™ test, we established a criterion reference group of engaged couples. We compared the reference group against five groups of unrelated strangers and conducted one way Anova procedures. The statistical significance of the five Anova tests is .01, .04, .05, .06 and .06. These data suggest the test is predicting the formation of interpersonal attraction and attachment at statistically acceptable levels. Couples matched using this instrument have the same compatibility as our control group – engaged couples.

We are pleased, and cautiously optimistic as we continue to add data that the test is serving the purpose for which it was constructed. It is easily changed to fit any particular niche or other demographic.

From an unscientific perspective, which may be relevant, the test has generated 12 documented engaged couples in the first two months in a very small market and sample size. The test really works.
